Best sandwiches in Sarasota! I had the Godfather and it was extremely satisfying after my bike ride! Excellent variety of all things Italian and the friendliest staff.

I had a lovely time eating lunch here, very authentic and delicious sandwich! Forgot to take a pic before. The staff was very welcoming, accommodating and friendly, and even insisted on a fantastic espresso after the sandwich. Will be back!

My sister and I just ate lunch at Piccolo and found it to be magnifico! We both had garlic twists and chopped Italian salads — mine with no meat, hers with lots — that were full of crisp romaine lettuce, olives, artichokes, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and shaved Parmesan. I also had a mushroom-and-mozzarella-stuffed arancini perched on a pool of fabulous red sauce. The restaurant, owned by a family from Sicily, offers a variety of pizzas, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, pastas and desserts. The market side of the business is stocked with shelf after shelf of items from Italy, and the refrigerator cases are full of cheeses, sausages, meatballs and prepared foods. Although it was our first time at Piccolo, it definitely won’t be our last!

Listen, I’ve had "bread" in other places that felt like I was chewing on a damp sponge. Not here. Mitch & Christina are out here doing the Lord’s work at this Italian market. The Pizza: Look at the slice in the photos. That crust has more structural integrity than my last 3 relationships🤦🏻. It’s got that perfect char, & the toppings nicely corse chopped onions, peppers, mushrooms actually taste like they came from the earth & not a freezer bag. It’s the kind of slice that makes you want to fold it, marry it & immediately eat it. The Sausage Sub: I tackled the 8-inch homemade sausage sub & frankly, I’m changed. • The Bread: Firm & crunchy on the outside, light / airy inside. It’s the goldilocks of rolls. • The Pro-Move: The chef actually slices the sausage. No wrestling with a rubbery casing like you’re in a low-budget survival movie. Just pure, flavorful efficiency. • The Cheese: (See the photo of that cheese pull for reference). That house-made mozzarella is basically art. This is a legit Italian, capital I. Delicious foods, authentic breads, and delicious desserts. Pizza too. Cute market for the authentic groceries. Great for a stop and sit meal, or groceries on the go. Small tables in the market/deli area for insisting. And pizza counter next door . Edited to add that we came here 3x in one week, and it's been well worth it. From sandwiches to pizza, to desserts, don't miss this Slice of Italy
